Web Quest: SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

INTRODUCTION:
On 17th March Irish people celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

TASK:
In order to get acquainted with this popular festivity, you are going to create a Power Point presentation about it.

PROCESS:

  • You will work in groups of four students (same groups as usual A, B,C, D and E). You need to find the answers to these questions. Go to the Resources section to find some links which will help you in your work.
1. Who was Saint Patrick?
2. Where in the world is St. Patrick's celebrated?
3. Explain some typical Irish symbols: shamrock, green colour, snakes, leprechauns...
4. How can we celebrate Saint Patrick's?
5. Explain some traditional recipes for this day.

  • Once you have gathered enough information, create a presentation. You are allowed to have more than one slide to answer for each question.  Include some nice images and try not to make your texts too long.
EVALUATION:
You will present your projects in class. The assessment criteria will be based on your creativity, information quality and oral skills.

RESOURCES:

Vocabulary Unit 6: JOBS

Here you have an activity on vocabulary which can help you practise before the vocabulary test. This activity is optional although I highly recommend it. Good luck!

1. Click on this link and it will lead you to the first exercise in the English4u web page.
2. Click on this link and it will lead you to other vocabulary exercises from the same web.

Breaking up is hard to do...

Hi students!

As you know we are currently working on relationships. Look at this picture of Anne and Michael and try to tell me what is going on in the picture and how things will end up. Remember that you have to use the vocabulary that we have learnt in Unit 5. Post your answers as a comment in this blog. Good luck!

About Charles Dickens...

As you all know, as we talked about it in class today, these days we are celebrating Charles Dickens' 200th anniversary. Here is a video which explains the most important facts in his life. Watch it and answer the following questions in your notebooks:

1. When was he born?
2. What was his job as a young boy?
3. What happened to his father?
4. How did he become interested in writing?
5. What animal did he keep as his pet?
6. What inspired him while visiting America?
7. How did Dickens perform his works?
8. What was the reason of his marriage ending?
9 What event left him traumatized?
10. Where is he buried?
